How to Relax In New Orleans
Where to go: Lake Front Area
One of my favorite areas to chill and relax in New Orleans is the Lakefront area. Growing up in New Orleans I really appreciate the thought my mom put in on all the rides to go home. We lived near Robert E. Lee and Elysian Fields growing up. My mom could have many times just taken 610 and got home quickly. Instead of the quick route she would take Lakeshore Drive all the way from West End area to Elysian Fields Ave just so we could have a chance to look at all the nice neighborhoods and see the huge homes on the way to our house. Those moments we shared on the way home, listening to soft jazz or some chill R&B really helped us have a moment of peace.
These moments really helped me to learn how to fall in love with my city…. New Orleans. It’s what helped me to develop a real appreciation for the culture of where I was raised. Every time I’m there it reminds me of my childhood and all the bar-b-que and picnics we had growing up.
The Lake front has a lot of space to just do your own thing. For instance, you can just pull up in your car and enjoy the view of the water. Many people ride their bikes and jog on the lake front. Some people bring their fishing rods and fish to catch their dinner. So, the next time you are in New Orleans take some time to visit the lakefront and make your own memories. Go to the lake front and find your own way to create a moment of peace.
Popular things to do on the lakefront:
Yacht Tour – Most people enjoy spending time with friends and family and when possible we want to do it in luxury. For this reason I would like to tell you about a really relaxing and chill experience on the lake…taking a yacht out on Lake Pontchartrain.
Click here to see the different options for the tours and times they offer. You can even rent an entire yacht for two hours to hang out with your friends and family. It doesn’t matter what moment you are trying to create. It might be a proposal dinner, maybe a graduation celebration, you could want to create an epic date night. When considering taking a yacht out on the lake and enjoying a glass of champagne at sunset, every moment will be that much better.
Fly Boarding / Jet Ski – For all you thrill seekers one option for fun on the lake is Fly boarding. If you aren’t familiar with what this is here’s a brief idea. When you go fly boarding you are attached to a board that has a connection to a Jet Ski. The Jet Ski will force water pressure through the hose to the jet nozzles under the board. The water pressure can allow a person to hover up to 50 feet above the surface of the water. If you like water sports this could be an amazing experience. For all those who would rather a calm and chill experience North Shore Hydrosports (NHS) also provides guided pontoon boat tours with a covered canopy and a filled ice chest on board. The pontoon boat tours cruise on the Tchefunte River. For all your water sport activities check out (NHS) here.
What to do on the Lakefront:
- Fishing – In New Orleans many people love to fish. Some people wake up early in the morning so they can go to one of their favorite spots and setup before day break. There are a ton of options for you if you want to take a chartered boat out on the water. If you want more info on fishing in NOLA near the lakefront area click here.
- Fish Fry – Growing up in New Orleans we didn’t always go out to eat at all the restaurants. We always enjoyed eating home cooked food. If you like to enjoy a good home cooled meal, go check out @homecook4fam on IG. They offer options such as fried fish, poboys or whatever you feel like eating that you can enjoy on the lakefront.
What to Eat:
No trip to New Orleans is complete without answering the most important question: What are we going to eat? It’s completely impossible to really explain in great detail all the food options New Orleans has to offer in this one article. But, what I will do is show you my favorite spots I love to eat at when in my city chillin near the lake,
- New Orleans Food and Spirits
I love this place. The food is amazing. They have really good salmon and the voodoo egg rolls are off the chain. Pretty much everything is good. The prices are reasonable and the service is quick usually. So, I’m a sucker for scenery. At this restaurant there is a huge fountain outside the restaurant. You can sit at your table either inside or in the courtyard and enjoy the view of the fountain. If you go before sunset when the lights are on outside you can have a dinner you will remember for a long time. - Blue Crab Restaurant
This is another one of my favorite spots in NOLA to chill at. The food is awesome and the views are amazing too. The restaurant is built on the second floor. There is a bar down stairs that is outside. There is also a balcony upstairs if you want to eat outside near the restaurant. The views from the second floor gives you a cool perspective of the marina and sunsets are amazing. This is definitely a place you want to check out if you are looking for a place near the lakefront. In New Orleans we don’t eat to live, we live to eat. So whatever you do in New Orleans remember… have a good time. - top options for this article:
